Kuwaiti Woman’s Journey into Managing her Finances

How Much do you Spend on a Gift?

February is going to test my budget because I have 5 birthdays that I will need to buy presents for. Three of the five are really close friends so I will have to put a little thought into what I get them and ways to cut down costs.

How much do you spend on a gift? I usually try to limit myself to KWD 50 because I learned in the past that it sometimes makes people uncomfortable when you buy them something expensive no matter how close they are. They sometimes feel they have to equal or exceed my present to them when my birthday comes around.

The best thing about gifts is that it’s the thought and meaning behind them that counts so I can find ways to cut down on my gift spending by being creative and coming up with unique presents. This can range from creating a scrap book to sending a birthday package full of memories you’ve shared.

How much do you usually spend on average on gifts?

50 KD is a good price range for a gift. unique presents due have more meaning. If someone would get me a watch or a phone I would be very happy :), but having something that can’t be replaced is just awesome. I have a couple of scrapbooks I got from friends and altough they didnt cost much to make, to me they are priceless.

Giving someone a “date” to remember on their birthday is great Tasha, I do that for some of my friends too.

Tasha that sounds like a great gift in itself. In this busy world it’s sometimes difficult to spend quality time with someone. It also might be the cheaper alternative than buying a gift.

Bader I agree and that’s why I’m going to put in a little more effort in what I’m giving for gifts this year.

for me it depends..I find it really hard when it comes up to buying gifts..So I often start looking for them a month or two ahead..and I think kd50 is a pretty decent amount if you are buying a gift for a friend!

One of the few things that brings joy to my heart, thinking of THE gift months earlier and the amazing feeling that I’ve managed to get it right, the gift that speaks to the friend and says that I’ve really thought hard about it and yes I’ve been noticing and I do remember.

I never set a limit to a gift, it’s all about the right gift. I hate those gifts which I call “emergency gifts” which range from perfumes, pens and wallets.

I wish there was no set amount for gift spending. I prefer the “whatever it takes” route. Sometimes it is possible to find something for free, other times it could be a lot of money.
